According to well-renowned West Ham ITK ExWHUemployee, West Ham were watching Che Adams closely before he sealed his £16 million switch to Southampton.

The 22-year-old was on fire for Birmingham City last season, racking up an impressive 22 goals in 46 games.

The Hammers seem to be intent on bringing in a prolific goalscorer this summer, and Adams could have been just the ticket.

He was a target for Manuel Pellegrini, according to ExWHUemployee:

West Ham will now have to look elsewhere, however.

Pellegrini is reportedly keen on Celta Vigo frontman Maxi Gomez, whilst West Brom’s Salomon Rondon has also been mentioned.

The Hammers are expected to make a sustained push for the top seven next season, and signing an established hitman will be crucial to their hopes of doing just that.

Considering the fact that Adams joined Southampton for just £16 million, he could have been quite the coup for West Ham.

He is inexperienced at the top level, however. And the east London outfit’s fanbase might not have been too excited about the arrival of the 22-year-old from Birmingham.

Instead, Pellegrini will probably be looking for more glamorous targets. That isn’t to say that Adams will not go on to be a success at St Mary’s, however.
