West Ham insider ExWHUemployee suggested that the club will not offer Manuel Pellegrini an extension on his current contract until he enters the last year of his deal, when speaking during the West Ham Way podcast today (Wednesday, September 25th).
The Chilean, 66, took over as Hammers manager in the summer of 2018 on a three-year deal.
And he has really impressed at the London Stadium.
Pellegrini guided West Ham to a top 10 finish last season, and it seems as though his squad are ready to challenge for the top six this time around.
The Hammers currently sit in fifth spot in the table, and have begun the season in fine fashion.
Pellegrini’s current deal expires in the summer of 2021. And ExWHUemployee claims that the West Ham board will not offer him an extension until next summer, when speaking during the West Ham Way podcast today (Wednesday, September 25th):
“People have been talking about Pellegrini, and whether he should get a new contract or not. I believe the club, as they always do with their managers, will not be offering him a new deal until the final year of his contract. The club have got him on a massive deal in terms of bonuses and wages. Pellegrini is unlikely to leave us, he’s 66, he’s had his big clubs like Real Madrid and Man City.”
West Ham face Oxford United tonight in the Carabao Cup, before they travel to south coast to take on Bournemouth on Saturday.
And the way things are going, it would be no surprise to see the Hammers win both games.
If West Ham finish inside the top six this season, Pellegrini will surely deserve a bumper new deal.
Considering his age, however, it is doubtful that he will be in charge for much longer than another three or four years.
