Incredibly, things are about to get a lot worse for West Ham as fate conspires against Julen Lopetegui

The pressure on Julen Lopetegui was greatly eased on Saturday, after West Ham United beat Ipswich Town 4-1.

West Ham put in our best all-round performance of the season in the Premier League at the London Stadium against Ipswich, and the victory was a much-needed one for Julen Lopetegui.

Before the Ipswich game, there was even talk of the Spaniard getting the sack if results didn’t improve quickly, but he has apparently assured the board that he will turn things around.

The West Ham owners backed Lopetegui to the hilt in the transfer market in the summer, and now the onus is on the Spaniard to start producing consistently.

The Hammers now sit just three points adrift of the European places.

So a good run of form would see the current narrative at the London Stadium significantly switch.

However, things may well get a whole lot worse before they get better unfortunately.

Fate conspires against West Ham chief Julen Lopetegui

The Hammers head coach has experienced a really challenging first few months in charge at the London Stadium.

The football has been painful to watch at times, and the results have been underwhelming.

In fairness to Lopetegui, the games the Hammers have had so far have been incredibly hard.

Here’s the thing though, things could be about to get a whole lot worse.

Our next batch of six games in the Premier League after the international break really is the stuff of nightmares.

The Hammers face trips to Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, and home games against Manchester United, Everton and Arsenal.

Let’s be real here, it would be fair to argue that a return of eight points would be a decent haul for West Ham from those six games wouldn’t it?

The clashes with Everton and Nottingham Forest are must wins as far as I’m concerned.

It would be great if we could get something from the home games against Manchester United and Arsenal as well.

When it rains it pours for West Ham and Lopetegui

It’s just so typical of the Hammers’ luck right now, and more to the point Lopetegui’s, that we have such a tough run of games coming up.

Remember, we’ve already faced Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea at home, and tough London derbies away at Crystal Palace, Fulham and Brentford.

The win over Ipswich Town on Saturday eased the pressure on West Ham United head coach Julen Lopetegui.

However, a poor run of form over the next six weeks or so could see that toxic atmosphere return to the London Stadium.

Let’s hope that that’s not the case, and the West Ham players come out firing on all cylinders after the international break ends.

They will all have to be at their very best in order to pick up points against Tottenham and Manchester united, that’s for sure.

The hard work for Lopetegui and his players begins now.
