When writing his weekly column for the Evening Standard, Hammers skipper Mark Noble suggested that he would like to see the West Ham fans boo and whistle when the opposition are in possession at the London Stadium, much like the Liverpool fans do at Anfield.
The Hammers have 10 Premier League games remaining this season, and five of them are at home.
Those matches are against Wolves, Chelsea, Burnley, Watford and Aston Villa.
West Ham absolutely must take at least nine points from those games, if they are to have any chance of staying up this season.
In order for that to happen, the players will need the Hammers fans to be right behind them in every game.
And Noble urged the West Ham faithful to be as partisan as they can during the Premier League run-in, when writing his weekly column for the Evening Standard:
“I’d love it if our fans whistled and booed every time the opposition got the ball. It happened to us up at Liverpool and it was deafening.”
London Stadium a soft touch for visiting sides
Noble is spot on. Liverpool haven’t lost a Premier League game at home for nearly three years. Crystal Palace were the last team to beat the Reds at Anfield in the league way back in April 2017.
And it’s no coincidence. The atmosphere is hostile and intimidating for visiting teams.
And the West Ham fans must do what they can to make the London Stadium a really difficult place to come and play football for away sides.
It’s an away game up next for the Hammers, however. They take on Arsenal at the Emirates tomorrow. And the West Ham fans will undoubtedly be right behind their team, as they always are away from home.
