Ian Wright has suggested that the West Ham players owe it to the fans to start putting in some performances, especially at the London Stadium, when speaking on the BBC’s Monday Night Club Radio show on Monday night.

The Hammers are currently in a perilous position. They are sitting in 18th spot in the table, one point adrift of safety, and the outlook is bleak.

The atmosphere at the London Stadium for home games is bordering on toxic. The West Ham fans are not happy with the way that the club is being run. And results on the pitch are not helping.

To make matters worse, the Hammers face Manchester City and Liverpool both away from home in their next two fixtures.

After those games, West Ham are set to welcome Southampton to the London Stadium in what will surely be a must win game for the east London outfit.

And Ian Wright urged the Hammers players to start giving the fans something to shout about, when speaking on the BBC’s Monday Night Club Radio show on Monday night:

“There’s nothing about the way West Ham are playing at home [to get behind], they’re turning up in numbers. If the players will just give them something, they will get behind them. They will at West Ham, I’ve seen it.”

Wright is spot on. If the players start putting in some strong displays, and at the very least work their socks off in every game, the fans will be right behind them.

There does seem to be too many passengers in the team, however. The likes of Sebastien Haller, Manuel Lanzini and Felipe Anderson have quite simply not produced the goods this season.

And that will need to change if West Ham are to avoid the drop. The players are more than capable of going on a run. It will just depend on whether they gave the heart for the battle that lies ahead.
