Ian Wright absolutely raved about West Ham ace Michail Antonio, when speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day 2 programme last night (Sunday, March 1st).
The powerful attacker joined the east London outfit from Nottingham Forest for around £7 million in the summer of 2015 (BBC).
The 29-year-old was at his irrepressible best against Southampton on Saturday.
And he might just end up being the man who keeps the Hammers up this season.
Antonio missed a large chunk of the season through injury before Christmas. And West Ham really missed him.
With his pace and power, he offers the Hammers something that they do not otherwise posses.
And Antonio was a constant menace for David Moyes’s side against the Saints on Saturday, racking up a goal and an assist.
Wright suggested that West Ham have a great chance of staying up if they keep the 29-year-old fit, when speaking to the BBC’s Match of the Day 2 last night:
“I watched him against Southampton earlier in the season and he was virtually unstoppable. If they can keep him fit and keep him going, there are good signs for West Ham. If he does that, then West Ham will get results.”
David Moyes must play Antonio alongside Sebastien Haller in every game now between the end of the season. Even in the tough away matches.
The Englishman and the Frenchman have linked up really well for West Ham when they have been deployed in tandem.
And the duo have the ability to cause problems against any team in the league.
Moyes has the blueprint for success now. He just has to be brave enough to use it consistently.
