Paul Merson suggested that Southampton at home is a ‘horrible’ game for West Ham, when writing his regular column for the Daily Star.
The Hammers desperately need a win today. They are currently sitting in 18th spot, one point adrift of safety, but they can climb out of the bottom three with a victory today.
David Moyes’s men showed enough away at Liverpool on Monday night to give their fans hope that they will avoid relegation this season.
But they still have some incredibly tough games on the horizon.
Today’s game against Southampton is an absolute must win, but the Saints will be no pushovers.
Merson warned West Ham that they will face a tough afternoon against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side at the London Stadium, when writing his regular column for the Daily Star:
“I think this is a really horrible game for West Ham because Southampton are better away from home and they will have a go. I would play the young lad Jeremy Ngakia though. If he can do it at Liverpool against three of the best in the business he can do it against Saints. A draw would take West Ham out of the bottom three so they must make sure they don’t lose the game. But a win would really boost their confidence.”
West Ham have a great recent record against Southampton. The Hammers have won all of their last four meetings with the Saints by an aggregate scoreline of 9-1.
The east London outfit need to be at it from the very first minute today. And the fans do too.
A win would set them up perfectly for the final 10 games. And would give the players a much needed boost of confidence with Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea lying in wait.
