Michail Antonio seemed to take a swipe at the way in which West Ham set up away at Manchester City two weeks ago, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website.
The Hammers went to the Etihad with absolutely zero attacking intent, and they lost the game 2-0. In fact, that scoreline was extremely flattering to the visitors.
Many West Ham fans were absolutely fuming with David Moyes’s setup against City.
The strange thing is, when West Ham played Liverpool away five days later, the Scot changed his tactics and actually went for the game.
And surprise surprise, the Hammers played very well. They were actually unlucky to lose the game.
Antonio spoke to WHUFC.com, and suggested that West Ham need to ‘have a go’ in every single game that they play:
“We’ve got to go out there, have a go, score goals, create goals, and defend and work as a team. Right now we need to have eleven men out there chasing, working hard and just showing what we can do. We need to play well and when we get on the ball, keep the ball and believe. When we keep the individual mistakes out, we perform well and we create.”
This was clearly something they did not do against City, however.
The good news is that Moyes seems to have learned from that experience. And if the games against Liverpool and Southampton are anything to go by, West Ham will be just fine this season.
As long as they have a go and try to win every match, the West Ham fans have nothing to fear.
