Harry Redknapp suggested that West Ham now have a better team than Manchester United, when speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT yesterday morning (Monday, September 23rd).
The Hammers beat United 2-0 at the London Stadium on Sunday. And they didn’t even need to get out of second gear to beat the 20-time league champions.
Manuel Pellegrini has assembled a very strong squad of players since he took over as manager of West Ham in the summer of 2018.
United, meanwhile, look bang average. They look incredibly light up front, having sold Romelu Lukaku and loaned out Alexis Sanchez.
The Red Devils seem to be so far away from challenging for the top four, let alone the title.
At the same time, West Ham will be really confident that they can finish inside the top six this term. And the more optimistic fans will be thinking that a top four finish is a genuine possibility.
Harry Redknapp, who managed the Hammers for seven years, told talkSPORT yesterday how he believes that Pellegrini’s side are actually stronger than Manchester United this season:
“It’s a long way back for them, the team is not good enough. You can talk about Ole, you can talk about the managers but the team he has is what they are. You look at that team before the game and thought ‘what an average-looking team’. West Ham’s team looks a better team. They’re a very average bunch at the moment, I’m afraid.”
West Ham currently sit in fifth spot in the Premier League table, whilst Manchester United are in eighth.
And it really would be no surprise if that’s where both teams ended up come the end of the season.
How times have changed.
