Harry Redknapp has suggested that Mauricio Pochettino’s job will not be on the line when Tottenham take on West Ham after the international break, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports.
The Hammers play host to Spurs on November 23rd, with both sides in desperate need of a win.
West Ham and Tottenham have both slumped down to 16th and 14th place in the Premier League table respectively.
The Telegraph reported earlier this week that Pochettino’s fate as Spurs boss could be sealed if his side lose to the Hammers at the London Stadium in eight days time.
Harry Redknapp refuted that suggestion, however.
The former Tottenham and West Ham boss told Sky Sports:
“West Ham will be a difficult game, but I can’t see his job being on the line. I’m a big fan of Pochettino – he’s a great manager and personality. But with that squad he’s got to win something, they have to get some silver on the sideboard somewhere. They won’t win the league and I don’t think they are good enough to win the Champions League [this season]. They’re out the League Cup so will have to look to win the FA Cup.”
Redknapp’s comments are all well and good, but there is a genuine fear amongst Spurs fans that the Argentine has taken the club as far as he can.
Tottenham need to turn things around and fast.
If they fail to beat West Ham next weekend, the pressure on Poch’s shoulders will only intensify.
And there is nothing that Hammers fans would love more than for their team to help bring an end to the Argentine’s reign in north London.
