Graeme Souness offered high words of praise for West Ham ace Michail Antonio, when speaking during Sky Sports’ production of yesterday’s game (October 18th, 16:24).
The 30-year-old Hammers man has been in sparkling form of late. He has scored 11 goals in his last 16 Premier League games.
Antonio’s work-rate is infectious and the effort he puts in as a lone striker really is impressive.
He is vital to the way in which we play and without him, our new system would quite simply not work.
Antonio began his career in the lower leagues and eventually joined West Ham from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2015 for around £7 million.
Micky you’re so fine
And the 30-year-old has been worth every single penny.
Souness is certainly a fan of the Hammers ace. The Scot waxed lyrical about Antonio when speaking during Sky Sports’ production of yesterday’s game (October 18th, 16:24):
“The word you’re looking for is hunger. He realises how lucky he is. He’s had punches on the nose several times and now he’s playing at the highest level and he’ll be enjoying every minute of it. He’s one of those centre-forwards you wouldn’t enjoy playing against. You get in a race with him, he’s going to beat you, physically if you have a tangle with him, he’s going to beat you. He’s got good enough technique but the overriding thing for him is his attitude to the game.”
Souness is spot on. Antonio has forged a wonderful career for himself. And he has done it the hard way.
Now the 30-year-old is at the very top of his game. And if he keeps producing week in week out, West Ham could very well push for a top-half finish this season.
