West Ham right-back Ryan Fredericks spoke to the club’s official website after his side’s fine 4-0 win over Bournemouth yesterday, and shared what David Moyes told the players before the game.
The Hammers looked like a totally different side against the Cherries yesterday.
They hunted in packs, pressed efficiently and looked dangerous every time they went forward.
We can’t get too carried away, however. Bournemouth were incredibly poor after-all. But it was a start, and Moyes will be delighted with how his players reacted to dropping inside the bottom three before kick-off.
Fredericks spoke to reporters after the match, and opened up on the message that the Scot gave his players before they took to the field of play, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“Obviously the gaffer’s not been here very long at all. He hasn’t had much time with us on the training field, but what he has said to us has stuck in our minds. Everything’s been short and direct. The boss said it’s not about going out and dominating every second of the game. That’s not what football’s about. “
Moyes was far from a popular appointment.
But if he can get West Ham playing like they did yesterday on a consistent basis, the Hammers fans will surely start warming to the former Everton and Manchester United boss.
West Ham have some really tough games coming up. And yesterday’s win will give the players some much needed confidence heading into a period that could end up defining their season.
