As speculation regarding Mateus Fernandes’ likely West Ham United exit threatens to become deafening, the noises surrounding Konstantinos Mavropanos’ own future have grown quiet of late.
Hammers News reported earlier this week that Man United have been quoted in excess of £60 million for the Portugal playmaker.
West Ham United are yet to receive the same level of interest in a towering centre-back who beat Mateus Fernandes to the club’s Player of the Year award, but those links with Borussia Dortmund are certainly worth keeping an eye on.

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Dortmund have discussed internally the idea of bringing Konstantinos Mavropanos – formerly of Stuttgart – back to the Bundesliga.
In the meantime, Premier League powerhouses Liverpool and Manchester United could yet have a key role to play in deciding Mavropanos’ fate.
Dortmund-linked Konstantinos Mavropanos could leave West Ham United
While Man United could look to reunite Mateus Fernandes with El Hadji Malick Diouf at Old Trafford, there is no indication that Mavropanos is on the Red Devils’ radar, too. Yet, with Man United and bitter rivals Liverpool reportedly looking at Dortmund for new centre-halves, the Greek giant may become a link in a larger chain.
The Mirror reported this week that Michael Carrick’s Champions League returnees are ‘weighing up’ a £35 million move for Waldemar Anton.
Anton’s centre-back partner Nico Schlotterbeck signed a contract extension at Signal Iduna Park recently. However, a well-publicised – and highly-controversial – clause reportedly gives Liverpool the opportunity to take Schlotterbeck to Anfield for somewhere between £50 and £60 million.
If either Anton or Schlotterbeck go, Mavropanos may be Dortmund’s first port of call in pursuit of a replacement.
Champions League football will surely tempt Mavropanos
Signed from Stuttgart in a £17 million deal in 2023, Mavropanos played comfortably the best football of his West Ham career during the relegation run-in. Six of their seven clean sheets came when Nuno partnered the ex-Arsenal man with Chelsea loanee Axel Disasi from February onwards.
But at the age of 29, Dortmund’s interest could present Mavropanos with the chance to play Champions League football at the peak of his powers.

A spokesperson for the board told Hammers News after Plettenberg’s claims emerged that West Ham are ‘calm about the Mavropanos speculation’. Then again, relegation makes retaining his services a whole lot harder than it otherwise would have been.
“This is standard practice when players are discussing new contracts and terms and often used by intermediaries to force the club’s hand on certain things,” the spokesperson said.
“Everyone at the club is delighted by Mavropanos’ turnaround, not least because he is such a popular guy in the dressing room and has found it tough to establish himself since signing
“But we are calm and would question where the information is coming from given a key contact left the club some time ago now.”
