Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko let West Ham down vs Aston Villa

West Ham earned a hard-fought point away at Aston Villa last night.

Despite being reduced to 10 men after 67 minutes, the Hammers could have in fact gone on to win the game.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side were just not decisive enough in the final third, however. They lacked a certain kind of quality, invention and guile when going forward. And that is unlike West Ham, considering how many top class players they have in the attacking department.

So who disappointed most for the Hammers?

The Brazilian looked totally disinterested at times last night. He floated out on the left, hugging the touchline, and when he was given the ball, more often that not he just passed it back to where it came from.

The 26-year-old has been brilliant for West Ham since moving to east London from Lazio in the summer of 2018. Last night was one of his worst displays in a Hammers shirt, however.

The Ukraine international has only recently returned from the injury that kept him out for the majority of last season. So we must not be too harsh on him.

The 29-year-old really was well off the pace against Villa, however.

His play was slow and laboured, and he just didn’t pose any kind of threat to the hosts.

Yarmolenko really must improve and get up to speed soon if he is to keep his place in the West Ham side. Especially with Robert Snodgrass pushing him hard for the right wing spot.
