The 19-year-old burst onto the scene earlier this year after Ryan Fredericks was sidelined through injury.
And Ngakia has taken to Premier League football like a duck to water.
The teenager has settled in to life in the top flight seamlessly. And it seems as though West Ham have a real future star on their hands.
It could actually be argued that he has already made the right-back position at the London Stadium his own.
David Moyes deserves a lot of credit for having the courage to provide the youngster with the platform to showcase his ability this season.
In four Premier League appearances thus far, Ngakia has racked up 12 tackles, six interceptions, 13 clearances and 13 ball recoveries (premierleague.com).
Talented youngster has an incredibly bright future…
The 19-year-old has looked incredibly comfortable playing in the Premier League against seasoned pros. And he has all of the tools needed to go on and become a truly top player for the Hammers.
It will be very important for West Ham to tie the talented youngster down to a new long-term deal.
And ExWHUemployee claimed that that is exactly what the Hammers are trying to do, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Wednesday, May 6th):
“Jeremy Ngakia has really impressed for us. He’s been offered a new deal, which he hasn’t accepted yet. I don’t know the actual figures, but the club probably need to recognise his potential a little bit more. He was offered a deal a while ago, and it was reflective of a decent scholar, not reflective of a first-team regular. So I think therein lies the problem.”
West Ham absolutely must offer Ngakia a contract that fairly reflects his incredible talent.
Otherwise they will risk losing him. And there surely won’t be any shortage of potential suitors for the 19-year-old right-back.
Ngakia could save West Ham tens of millions of pounds in the transfer market. So it’s time David Sullivan bites the bullets and pays him what he deserves.
