Hammers insider ExWHUemployee claimed that West Ham have offered Jeremy Ngakia a new one-year deal for next season, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Wednesday, March 11th).
The 19-year-old made his debut for the east London outfit at home to Liverpool in January. He then made his next appearance away at Liverpool.
Ngakia has since played two further Premier League games. And the youngster has really impressed.
In four Premier League games in total this season, the West Ham starlet has racked up 12 tackles, six interceptions, 13 clearances and 13 ball recoveries (premierleague.com).
The 19-year-old has also demonstrated exceptional pace and he seems to be more than comfortable playing in the Premier League.
And ExWHUemployee claimed that Ngakia has been offered a minimal one-year extension on his scholarship with the club, when speaking on the West Ham Way Podcast last night:
“Ngakia, who is on a third year scholarship thing, the club have offered him a very minimal deal for next year. We want to get him on a decent contract. So at the moment, the club are going to start thinking about getting him signed on to a proper deal.”
The 19-year-old really does look like the real deal. It’s very early days of course. And West Ham must try to protect the youngster from being exposed to the highs and lows of top flight football too early.
Just look at what happened to Reece Oxford.
If Ngakia is managed correctly, however, he has all of the tools needed to reach the very top.
West Ham have a real talent on their hands. And tying him down to a long term deal soon should be one of their very top priorities.
