Enormous West Ham upgrade initiated by Graham Potter means West Ham will definitely sell fan favourite

Graham Potter has already made one major upgrade at West Ham United.

And it seems to have gone under the radar at the London Stadium somewhat.

West Ham appointed Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui one month ago, and the 49-year-old has already made a huge impact at the club.

Tim Steidten has moved on, with recruitment guru Kyle Macaulay replacing him.

Potter has made it clear that he is ready to place his faith in some of the club’s highly talented young players.

However, the need for new signings is clear and obvious to see as well.

Potter brought Evan Ferguson to the London Stadium in the January transfer window, whilst James Ward-Prowse returned to the club after his unsuccessful loan spell with Nottingham Forest.

That move divided opinion amongst the Hammers fans. However, there is one huge plus point that everyone seems to be missing.

Graham Potter decision is terminal for West Ham fan favourite

If nothing else, Ward-Prowse will provide Potter with a really useful, experienced option from the bench.

He will also obviously be a real weapon for us from set-pieces.

The other thing that nobody seems to be mentioning is just how much of an upgrade he is on Andy Irving.

The 24-year-old is a huge fan favourite at the London Stadium so the Hammers fans might find it hard to admit that he’s not actually of the required standard.

Ward-Prowse might not have the legs needed for Premier League football anymore, but he is certainly far superior to Irving technically.

And JWP’s return to the London Stadium could spell the end for Irving at West Ham.

Andy Irving not in James Ward-Prowse’s league

The Scot is not fit to lace Ward-Prowse’s boots unfortunately.

Whatever you think of the 30-year-old, he is an instant upgrade on Irving.

I get that the 24-year-old has become a cult hero at West Ham, but if we’re all being honest with ourselves, he’s nowhere near good enough to be playing Premier League football is he?

Irving is not a bad player at all – a solid operator who will undoubtedly forge a decent career for himself.

However, that won’t be at the very highest level of the game in my opinion.

James Ward-Prowse is streets ahead of Irving.

Despite the fact that some West Ham fans might not have been happy that Graham Potter brought the 30-year-old midfielder back to the club, he’s a huge upgrade on the Scot at the very least.
