Declan Rice spoke to reporters after West Ham’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa last night, and shared what disappointed him about his side’s display, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
The Hammers were solid defensively against the Villans, but they just didn’t do enough in the final third to win the game.
Manuel Pellegrini would have probably been happy with a point at the end, however, having had Arthur Masuaku sent off with just under 30 minutes still to play.
West Ham climbed up to eighth spot in the table after last night’s draw. And their return of eight points from a possible 15 represents a decent start to their Premier League campaign.
Rice spoke to reporters after his side’s draw with Villa, and suggested that he and his teammates were too slow out of the blocks against Dean Smith’s men, as quoted by the Daily Mail:
‘I think we’re very happy with the point. We were a bit slow in the first half. In the second half when we went down to ten, we knew it was going to be tough, but we dug in there and we were still creating chances. We were a bit slow out the blocks, they came out right on top. Second half, I thought we were excellent.”
Next up for West Ham is a home game against Manchester United on Sunday.
And they will need to improve upon their display against Villa, if they are to stand any chance whatsoever of beating Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
