West Ham ace Declan Rice spoke to reporters yesterday after his side’s fine 2-0 win over Manchester United, and singled out Andriy Yarmolenko for praise, labelling the Ukraine international as ‘special’.
The 29-year-old joined the Hammers from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2018, for a fee believed to be worth £17.5 million, according to Sky Sports.
His debut season in England was ruined by a serious Achilles injury, however.
Yarmolenko made just 10 appearances for West Ham last season, scoring two goals. And he’s already racked up the same return in just five outings this term.
The Ukrainian is slowly returning to somewhere near his best, and he could be a real asset for the Hammers this season.
Rice spoke to reporters after yesterday’s win over United, and offered high words of praise for Yarmolenko, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“He’s top. The technique he has got on him is really special. In training, sometimes the lads say ‘Wow’ as they’ve never seen anything like it. His left foot is beautiful so I’m buzzing that he has got another goal.”
Yarmolenko now needs to keep up his good form.
He can still get better. And if he does continue to improve, West Ham will be a real attacking force this season.
The 29-year-old will be delighted that he has found form so quickly after returning from injury.
And exciting times await the left-footed attacker.
