Dean Ashton suggested that West Ham fans will now begin to see the best of Sebastien Haller, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website, as long as he is given support in attack.

The 25-year-old joined the Hammers from Eintracht Frankfurt for around £45 million in the summer (BBC).

He has struggled for form since moving to the London Stadium, however.

Haller has scored just seven goals in 26 Premier League appearances for West Ham (Who Scored).

The Frenchman looked like a completely different player against Southampton last weekend, however.

He had the support of Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio, allowing him to bring others into the game more with his intelligent positioning and deft touches in and around the box

Striker could be key for the Hammers

And Dean Ashton highlighted just how important it is for West Ham to get players in and around Haller, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website:

“As soon as you put players around Haller with a bit of pace, like Antonio and Jarrod Bowen, that’s when you see the best of him, and we saw that against Southampton when he really shone. You’ve got certain players who are really suited to playing up front on their own and are happy to do lots of running in behind and can get on the end of things. Or you have players like myself, Andy Carroll and Sebastien Haller, who are only as good as players making runs in and around them.”

Haller clearly has the talent. He just needs to apply himself a bit more – as he did on Saturday. And the goals will surely start to flow.

Against Southampton, the 25-year-old scored a goal, attempted four dribbles, created one big chance, attempted three shots on goal and had nine touches in the opposition’s box (Football Critic).

And displays like that are why West Ham paid big money for his services.
