West Ham boss David Moyes addressed the media today, ahead of his side’s clash with Leicester City tomorrow night, and raved about Robert Snodgrass, as quoted by Football.London.
The 32-year-old joined the Hammers from Hull City for around £10.2 million in January 2017 (BBC).
The Scot, who earns £40,000 per week according to Spotrac, spent the 2017/18 campaign on loan with Aston Villa, but returned to West Ham after that, and has been a regular feature ever since.
Snodgrass is a divisive figure amongst Hammers fans.
He always gives 100 per cent and works his socks off, but he is often found wanting from a quality perspective.
Moyes was having none of that, however, when he spoke to reporters today, praising the West Ham winger to the hilt, as quoted by Football.London:
“He’s really important. I missed him the first time here when he was on loan but I have found him great to work with, he’s got great delivery, streetwise footballer. There will be games we can’t play him all the time but his output has been very good.”
On his day, Snodgrass can certainly make a difference, but it could be argued that he just isn’t good enough to be a regular player in a Premier League side.
West Ham need to move away from signing average, ageing players, if they truly want to make progress.
The Scot has by no means been the Hammers’ worst player this season, however. And judging by Moyes’s comments, he will undoubtedly have a key role to play for the east London outfit between now and the end of the campaign.
