David Moyes spoke to reporters after West Ham’s fine 4-0 win over Bournemouth yesterday, and offered high words of praise for Brazilian ace Felipe Anderson, as quoted by Football.London.
The 26-year-old joined the Hammers from Lazio in the summer of 2018 for around £41.5 million, according to BBC Sport.
Despite impressing initially, however, the South American has really struggled recently.
Before yesterday’s game against Bournemouth, Anderson had failed to score all season.
But he really stepped it up against the Cherries.
The former Lazio man looked lively all game, and finally broke his goalscoring duck for the season in the second-half.
He was a constant menace, and looked like the player who joined West Ham for such big money 18 months ago.
And Moyes took time to praise Anderson, when speaking to reporters after the game, as quoted by Football.London:
“Anderson did really well, got his first goal for a while, really good. I asked him if he was Brazilian. Brazilian’s score goals, Brazilian’s make the difference , they do something which makes us all excited, I said you’re not doing that. Give me a Brazilian goal and to be fair, he did.”
Anderson looked like a totally different player yesterday. He seemed like a man with a point to prove. And he certainly delivered a performance that reminded West Ham fans of just how good he can be.
The Hammers really need the Brazilian to be firing on all cylinders between now and the end of the season.
Although they sit just two points clear of the drop zone, a couple of wins in a row would make a top 10 finish a very real possibility.
And they need Anderson to be at his very best if they are to achieve that.
