Does a new report from France suggest West Ham United boss David Moyes is confident of landing Jesse Lingard?
Lingard has been a revelation since signing for West Ham on loan from Manchester United.
Hammers fans and Moyes are desperate to sign the attacking midfielder on a permanent basis in the summer.
Speculation has been rife over whether West Ham can get a deal done with Man United.
Lingard the one Hammers want but alternatives have been linked
Reports claim Lingard could cost the Hammers as much as £20million.
Potential alternatives have been linked such as Aaron Ramsey (Tuttosport).
And reliable insider ExWHUemployee recently claimed Moyes will be looking to exploit the free agent market too.
One of West Ham’s reported longstanding targets Florian Thauvin is available on a free in the summer.
So he would certainly be a player the club would consider. The Marseille ace plays in the same position as Lingard and like the 28-year-old he too can operate as a second striker.
Indeed some West Ham fans would argue co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold may prefer Moyes to move for Thauvin as he would save them money.
Prem rivals move for long-linked West Ham target Thauvin
And that suggests West Ham are confident they will have that position covered come next season. Hopefully with the signing of Lingard.
Indeed Leicester have been linked with Lingard. So the fact they are moving for Thauvin – coupled with the fact they already have James Maddison – is also positive for West Ham.
“L’Équipe report that Marseille winger Florian Thauvin’s future remains as unclear as ever, 3 months before his existing contract with the Ligue 1 side is due to expire,” GFFN reports.
“Thauvin made his feelings clear about Eyraud’s handling of his contract back on September 25th: “I feel that this should have been sorted out as long time ago, for a player in my position should not find themselves in the situation that I am in today. This should have been sorted straight after the 2018 World Cup.”
“He is not facing a barrage of interest from elsewhere. AC Milan enquired a little while ago, without taking things any further. There are other contacts, namely with Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Sevilla, but talks are far from being anywhere near an advanced stage.”
Does the fact West Ham have not joined Leicester in Thauvin hunt suggest confidence over Lingard signing?
The fact any approaches have not reached a substantial stage as yet bodes well for West Ham should the move for Lingard not materialise.
Thauvin is a quality player and is the same age as Lingard.
He has scored eight goals this season and provided seven assists.
But Lingard is the one that everyone at West Ham wants to see signed this summer.
So it is over to Sullivan and Gold to get it done.
