Danny Murphy delivered a fairly grim verdict on West Ham’s current problems, when writing an exclusive column for the Daily Mail.

The Hammers are in real trouble. Relegation down to the Championship is currently looking like a very real prospect.

David Moyes’s men are currently sitting inside the bottom three. And they have a truly horrendous set of fixtures lying in wait.

West Ham have to travel to Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham as well as hosting Southampton, Wolves and Chelsea over the next six weeks.

They also have to play Manchester City away, after yesterday’s game was called off.

The frustrating thing for Hammers fans is that there are some genuinely top class players plying their trade at the London Stadium, How they are even in this situation to start with is mind-boggling.

And Murphy suggested that things could get a whole lot worse for the football club, if they are indeed relegation this season, when writing a column for the Daily Mail:

“I have never agreed with the theory that being relegated can be a blessing in disguise. Dropping out of the Premier League isn’t good for anyone and in West Ham’s case it would be particularly disastrous. They need to stay up more than any other club in danger of the drop. Can you imagine the vast London Stadium half-empty in the Championship next season with Hammers fans watching a team bereft of Felipe Anderson, Declan Rice or Issa Diop? There would be no reason for the best West Ham players to stick around when top division clubs want them.”

Now is the time for the West Ham players to really stick together. And they need the Hammers fans behind them all the way too.

If the east London outfit are to avoid relegation, they need to start picking up results, and fast. And considering the quality of some of the players that Moyes has to choose from, there is no reason why that cannot happen.

It’s just a shame that every single pundit is peddling such pessimistic vibes at the moment. Because that surely cannot help the players one little bit.
