West Ham United signed Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United in the summer of 2024, whilst Maxwel Cornet left to join Southampton on loan.

Crysencio Summerville was brought into West Ham as a big upgrade upon the hapless Maxwel Cornet.

The Dutch winger recently claimed that his increased professionalism since joining the Hammers has led to big improvements from him.

Perhaps Cornet should have taken a leaf out of Summerville’s book.

The 28-year-old has endured a torrid time with West Ham over the past two-and-a-half years.

He was shipped out on loan to Southampton in the summer, but returned with his tail between his legs in January, before being moved on to Genoa, again on loan.

Quite what has happened to Cornet over the past two years is a mystery. He was brilliant for Burnley and Lyon before that.

Is it just me or is everyone else concerned that Summerville could be following the same path as Cornet?

I’m hugely excited about the former Leeds star – I really do think he’s a big talent.

He has absolutely everything needed to succeed at the very highest level, and when he fine-tunes his decision making, he’ll be a massive asset for us.

However, his latest injury problems are a big concern.

Potter spoke to reporters after our defeat to Villa in the FA Cup, following Summerville’s withdrawal at half-time.

He suggested that Summerville’s problem was a minimal one, and that he only brought him off as a precaution.

However, we still haven’t seen the 23-year-old since then.

A new update has just been provided on the winger’s ongoing injury problems.

Summerville’s continued absence is giving me seriously concerning Maxwel Cornet flashbacks.

The Ivorian suffered an innocuous injury in October 2022 – one that was expected to keep him out for a couple of weeks at the time.

However, he didn’t return until March, and he was never the same player after that.

The West Ham attacker is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines unfortunately.

Hammers insider Sean Whetstone took to his official X account to provide an update on Cry.

And the prognosis is not good…

That doesn’t sound good at all to me.

The key for the Hammers now will be to be patient with the Dutch forward, and give him the necessary time that he needs to recover, without rushing him back.

Let’s just hope that West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville doesn’t end up going the same way that Maxwel Cornet did.
