West Ham United travel to Watford on Saturday looking for a vast improvement on what they have offered up so far.

Humbled 5-0 on the opening day at home against Manchester City, West Ham then put in an equally depressing performance in the 1-1 draw at Brighton last time out.

Good or bad time to play Watford?

And despite the pleasant memories of a superb 4-1 win at Vicarage Road still fresh in the mind from the final game of last season, there is a crushing sense of inevitability for Hammers fans.

So is this the best or worst time to play Watford?

Most teams would say it is the best time to play Javi Gracia’s side.

Charitable West Ham face sense of inevitability

West Ham fans feel their club is the gift that keeps on giving in that respect.

So a little look at two key facts will surely ramp up the sense of inevitability further still.

Going into the game the Hornets have not only lost their opening two games but they have lost their last five league matches on the bounce including last season.

Watford are also yet to score this season.

West Ham have a habit of being the perfect opponents to get the monkey off your back.

Watford looking to get the monkey off their back

That must change on Saturday if Pellegrini is to stave off a growing sense of unrest born from what fans perceive as a failure to address key areas of the team in the summer transfer window.

Since then the Chilean’s team selection, tactics and substitutions have been heavily criticised by fans.

Maybe this can be the season where West Ham finally stop handing out reprieves to other teams and start being more ruthless.

We live in hope.
