The Hammers head into tonight’s game in real trouble. They are currently sitting in 18th spot in the Premier League table, one point adrift of safety, although they have played a game less than their rivals.
The Reds, meanwhile, are absolutely flying. They have dropped just two points in the league all season long, and are sitting 19 points clear of second placed Manchester City, with a game in hand over Pep Guardiola’s side.
West Ham have won only once at Anfield in the league since 1963, and Liverpool have won five and drawn two of their last seven league meetings with the east London outfit.
If the Reds are anywhere near their best tonight, the Hammers will find it difficult to keep pace with them.
Much will depend on how David Moyes sets up his team. If he chooses to deploy a similar side and setup to the game away at Manchester City on Wednesday, West Ham will face a long hard night on Merseyside.
Should the Scot opt to take a more attacking approach, however, who knows what could happen?
