Charlie Nicholas has suggested that West Ham will be happy with a 2-0 defeat when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night, when writing his regular prediction column for Sky Sports.
The Hammers have all sorts of problems at the moment. They are currently sitting in 18th spot in the Premier League table, one point adrift of safety.
David Moyes’s men have some incredibly difficult games coming up too.
After Monday’s visit to Liverpool, they face trips to Arsenal and Tottenham, as well as home games against Southampton, Wolves and Chelsea.
And considering the way in which Moyes set his team up against Manchester City on Wednesday night, West Ham fans will not be holding out much hope of their side picking up many points during the next six matches.
And Nicholas suggested that the Hammers will be happy with a 2-0 defeat at Anfield on Monday night, when writing his regular column for Sky Sports:
“We saw West Ham go to Man City and park the bus. David Moyes went with Michail Antonio instead of Sebastien Haller due to counter-attack threat. Robert Snodgrass could not keep the ball, and West Ham could not get out. If they go down 2-0, they will be happy with that, with goal difference to think about.”
The problem with Nicholas’s comments is that West Ham fans deserve so much more. They support their team in their numbers week-in, week-out. And Wednesday’s team selection and tactical setup against City was quite simply not acceptable from Moyes.
The Hammers have nothing to lose against Liverpool. They are expected to lose. So why not try and cause Jurgen Klopp’s side some problems?
Sure, the relegation battle might go down to goal difference on the final day. But that is highly unlikely.
And if Moyes sets his team up on Monday the same as he did on Wednesday, West Ham are in danger of being beaten before they even take to the field.
