Charlie Nicholas absolutely raved about West Ham ace Michail Antonio, when speaking on Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday programme today (Saturday March 7th, 13:38).

The 29-year-old joined the Hammers from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2015 for around £7 million, according to BBC Sport.

And the powerful attacker is a firm fan favourite in east London.

West Ham look like a completely different side when Antonio is playing. And he will be vitally important for David Moyes’s team between now and the end of the season, as they try to climb away from the relegation zone.

The former Forest man offers the Hammers something that they do not otherwise possess, what with his incredible pace and power.

And Nicholas is clearly a big fan.

“If they can keep him fit and get a run of games from him. Because power, commitment, enthusiasm, he’s got the whole package. He’s brilliant in the air. He can play centre-forward, wide right, wide left. He’s got all the assets. This guy is non-stop. He’s a powerhouse. This guy gives you so many options, with pace and power, and he would be an absolute treat to play with.”

Nicholas is spot on. It will be so important for West Ham for the 29-year-old to remain fit between now and the end of the season.

If Antonio does just that, and produces his best on a consistent basis, the Hammers will surely be just fine this term.

The former Forest man was far from his best today against Arsenal, however. The West Ham fans will be hoping that that was just a rare blip for the 29-year-old though.
