Steve Lomas sat down for an exclusive interview with the Sun, and suggested that any West Ham fan who thinks the owners are happy with seeing the team struggle must be an ‘idiot’.
The Hammers are in real trouble at the moment. They are currently sitting in 18th spot in the Premier League table, one point adrift of safety.
Fortunately for David Moyes’s side, however, the results this weekend really went their way, with Brighton drawing with Watford yesterday and Sheffield United beating Bournemouth today.
West Ham still have their work cut-out though, with some incredibly tough games to come over the next few weeks and months.
The atmosphere at the London Stadium at the moment is bordering on toxic, and the fans have never been more disillusioned with how the club is being run.
Lomas, who captained the east London outfit during his eight-year spell with the club, told the Sun how West Ham fans should realise that everything David Gold and David Sullivan do is in the best interest of the football club, however:
“Always be careful what you wish for. I’m sure David Gold and David Sullivan will admit they’ve made mistakes but I don’t think it’s out of malice. They don’t want the club struggling and anybody who thinks they do is an idiot.”
Lomas’s comments might just frustrate West Ham fans. Be careful what you wish for? Seriously? The Hammers have regressed massively over the past two or three years. All the promises made regarding Champions League football and the London Stadium have proven to be totally unfounded.
West Ham fans have every right to be angry with the board.
It is painfully clear to see that Sullivan and Gold are not performing to the required standard for Premier League football club owners.
There are more pressing issues at hand, however – the Hammers’ Premier League status.
The fans and the players need to feed off of each other over the next few months. If West Ham do go down this season though, Sullivan and Gold’s positions at the London Stadium would surely become truly untenable.
