Andy Irving now expected to leave West Ham United as Cajetan Lenz development emerges

West Ham United could look to replace Andy Irving with Cajetan Lenz in the January transfer window.

Irving moved to the London Stadium in 2023 but was loaned back right away, so he did not make his debut until a year later.

However, the Scotland international has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular and has fallen down the pecking order at West Ham.

This season, the 25-year-old has made six Premier League appearances but has been named in the starting eleven on one occasion.

Cajetan Lenz agent confirms transfer approaches

According to Sky Deutschland, West Ham are interested in securing the services of Bochum midfielder Cajetan Lenz.

They claim that a number of clubs, including the Hammers, have already made an approach for the 19-year-old.

Clubs outside Germany are also keeping tabs on the German defensive midfielder, who has become a regular for the Bundesliga outfit.

Lenz has represented Germany at the Under-20s level and is understood to be ready to take the next step in his career.

His agent is certainly doing the best he can to drive up interest in his client and potentially his asking price as well.

He said: “I can confirm that many clubs, both domestic and international, have contacted me. However, Cajetan is completely focused on his boyhood club, VfL Bochum.”

How much can West Ham get for Andy Irving?

If the Hammers succeed in signing Lenz, it’s almost certain that they will part ways with a midfielder.

James Ward-Prowse appears likely to leave, but Irving could also be on the chopping block in the coming weeks.

Irving has only a few more months left on his contract at the London Stadium and there are few indications that he will stay put at the club beyond the end of the season.

Thus, January appears to be the last window the Hammers can get something from his sale.

Given his age, there are chances that West Ham may command a fee in the region of £2million.

That should be a fair price, given the fact that he’s got his best years ahead of him.
