West Ham are in a real mess at the moment.
Despite signing three players in January, David Moyes’s squad still seems to be incredibly weak. And it is not an exaggeration to say that the Scot could have done with three more new players.
With so many new faces needed at the London Stadium, one position that often gets overlooked is central defence.
The addition of a top class centre-back will be a must in the summer.
Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop have both been incredibly poor for the Hammers this season. Angelo Ogbonna is actually the only central defender who can hold his head up high after the first 25 Premier League games.
Diop, 23, has played 19 games in the league this season, and the Hammers have kept just three clean sheets in those matches, with 35 goals being shipped in the process (premierleague.com).
The Frenchman has only made 20 tackles, with a poor success rate of just 55% (premierleague.com). He has also made one error leading to a goal being conceded.
Balbuena, meanwhile, has played 13 league games. West Ham have kept only three clean sheets in those matches, with 22 goals conceded (premierleague.com). The 28-year-old has made just 16 tackles, although his 69% success rate is better than Diop’s (premierleague.com).
The Paraguayan has also made two errors leading to goals conceded.
But who has been worse this season? Some West Ham fans took to Twitter to debate the issue:
It just serves as an example of how toxic West Ham are as a football club at the moment. Social networking platforms are being flooded with fans criticising the players, the board, the manager and the stadium.
And debating who is worse out of Diop and Balbuena just goes to show that they have very little to shout about at the moment.
