Alan Shearer raved about West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen, when writing his weekly column for premierleague.com.
The 23-year-old joined the Hammers from Hull City on transfer deadline day in January for around £22 million (The Guardian).
Bowen had to make do with two late substitute appearances against Manchester City and Liverpool respectively.
But he was handed his first start against Southampton at the London Stadium on Saturday.
And boy did he impress.
Bowen opened his goalscoring account for West Ham with a cheeky lobbed finish inside the first-half. He never stopped running, and his energy and commitment was infectious.
Against Southampton, Bowen attempted four shots on goal, had four touches inside the opposition’s box, made three dribbles and attempted two crosses (Football Critic).
And Shearer spoke very highly of the Hammers attacker, when writing his weekly column for the Premier League’s official website:
“Marked his first Premier League start for the club with a goal that was thoroughly deserved. His tireless pressing and tenacity up front made for a tough time for Southampton.”
Bowen proved against the Saints that he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League. The 23-year-old now just needs to show consistency between now and the end of the season.
If the former Hull man manages to do just that, West Ham will have a great chance of avoiding relegation this term.
