Alan Shearer highlighted how much better Sebastien Haller looked for West Ham against Southampton on Saturday, when writing his weekly column for premierleague.com.
The 25-year-old joined the Hammers from Eintracht Frankfurt for around £45 million in the summer of 2019 (BBC).
He has struggled to establish himself at the London Stadium, however.
Haller has scored just seven goals in 26 Premier League appearances for West Ham so far this season (Transfermarkt).
His most recent strike was against the Saints on Saturday. And the 6ft 3in hitman looked like a completely different player to what he did earlier on this season.
And Shearer suggested that Haller looked like a different man in comparison to his recent showings for the Hammers, when writing his weekly column for premierleague.com:
“Haller scored a hugely important goal and produced a much-improved all-round performance compared with recent showings. Perhaps a sign of things to come.”
If Haller can replicate the form that he showed against Southampton between now and the end of the season, he could turn out to be a hugely important player for West Ham.
The Frenchman has the build and physique to be totally dominant, if he wants to. He just needs to use his abilities and strengths to greater effect.
Playing alongside Michail Antonio clearly helps as well. The Hammers have the potential to be a really potent force with those two playing up front.
It remains to be seen whether David Moyes is brave enough to play them both together for West Ham’s final 10 games of the season, however.
