Arsenal’s game against Manchester City tonight has been postponed. The north London outfit played Olympiacos a couple of weeks ago. The Greek side’s owner Evangelos Marinakis has recently confirmed that he has contracted Coronavirus. And the decision to postpone tonight’s game might just have a knock-on effect for West Ham.
The Hammers played the Gunners at the Emirates last weekend.
Evangelos Marinakis clearly might have been in contact with the Olympiacos players. So, in turn, the Arsenal stars might have been exposed to the virus as well.
And perhaps the West Ham players were then subsequently exposed last Saturday.
It seems as though there could now be a real domino effect about to happen with regards to Premier League fixtures.
The Hammers are due to play Wolves at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon. But surely if the Arsenal players have been told to quarantine (The Telegraph), then the West Ham squad will have to as well?
This is all conjecture at the moment. But considering the rapid spread and progression of the Coronavirus, it is only common sense to presume that football could very well be heading towards wide-spread postponements and possibly even cancellations.
Who knows what the eventual ramifications could be?
And with a must win game against Wolves on the horizon, Hammers fans will be waiting with bated breath to see what the next step is, as authorities and governments attempt to contain the spread of Covid-19.
It’s not unrealistic to suggest that this season could end up being a write-off. We will all just to have to wait and see what happens next.
