Issa Diop has been one of the stars of West Ham United’s season and new video footage makes it is easy to why.

Young French centre back Diop cost West Ham £22.5 million in the summer, a club record for a defender.

He has looked a snip at that price too.

‘Monster’ Diop has been a highlight of Hammers season

Labelled a ‘monster’ by Jose Mourinho after West Ham’s 3-1 win over Manchester United earlier in the season, there was even talk of a shock call-up to the French senior side.

Despite West Ham’s ups and downs, Diop remains one of  Manuel Pellegrini’s better players week-to-week.

And new video footage from the club’s Spanish training camp this week proves it is no fluke.

Diop takes no prisoners during Spanish training camp

The commanding centre back is the star of a highlights reel from West Ham’s warm weather training break in Malaga.

Diop takes no prisoners on the pitch.

And it seems he approaches training the same way even with his own teammates.

During the clip he is seen clattering captain Mark Noble, crunching youngster Conor Coventry, hunting down record signing Felipe Anderson and powerfully snuffing out Javier Hernandez.

No rest for the wicked

Diop certainly did not look like he was in need of a rest.

Which is what Noble suggested he needed in a recent column for the Evening Standard.

“At the moment, we only have 15 fit first-team players and if you look at the past six weeks, we’ve played a lot of games and that has had a cumulative effect,” Noble told the Evening Standard.

“Issa Diop has played every match since he made his debut at Arsenal in August and could probably do with a rest but, at the moment, we haven’t got any alternatives.”
