Ladies beaten in historic fixture
Our ladies side were well beaten by top of the table Spurs on a historic night at White Hart Lane. The fixture was the first and possibly even the last ever woman’s game to be played at the soon to be demolished stadium, Spurs were returning the favour as we played them at home in the last season at the Boleyn a year ago. The hosts were in rampant mood to overcome our ladies side 4-0 with three second-half goals, and become crowned as the 2016/17 Women’s Premier League Southern Division champions. The defeat leaves our ladies second from bottom with 4 games of the season remaining.
U15’s top Prague group
Our U15 side have won the opening two games of the Slavia International Cup in Prague, to top their group. The young Hammers faced Austrian side St Polten beating them 1-0, before a 2-0 victory over Chinese outfit Jiangsu Suning, to top the group progressing to the next round. So could the young starlets be heading to the final to be held at the 20,000 capacity Eden Arena?
Hammers ponder Inzaghi move
Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi is yet the latest name to be linked with replacing Slaven Bilic in the summer. The younger brother of the Italy legend Fillipo Inzaghi has enjoyed an impressive season in charge of Lazio which has included guiding the Italian side to the Coppa Italia final and challenging for a Champions League spot. Nearly a month after Slaven Bilic receiving the vote of confidence and the Croat looking to have guided us to Premier League safety, ending our seven-game winless run with three games unbeaten, rumours continue to circulate about his future with us. It has been rumoured by the Sun that we are prepared to offer Inzaghi a five-year deal, so with rumours continuing to do the rounds, is Slaven Bilic still not safe in his role?
Transfer gossip: Hammers to monitor Modeste and Pickford
It has been rumoured this week by TalkSport that we have been set a £25 million price tag for our target, FC Koln striker Anthony Modeste. We have been showing interest in the prolific Frenchman, who now has 23 goals for the season, for some time now and it is clear to see how much the German side are willing to let him go for in the summer. So will we take another club record gamble on the former France U21 international?
It has been reported this week by the Daily Star that we are readying a summer move for Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. The young English star has impressed this season for the bottom-placed North East club after bursting onto the scene earlier in the term, but reports suggest the 23-year-old wants away from Wearside if the club get relegated. We have had issues in goal this season and alternated between Adrian and Randolph a number of times as we also have been linked with on-loan Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart. Arsenal and Everton are also reportedly interested in the bright young shot stopper, so we could face some competition for the England U21 international’s signature in the summer.
OTD-2012
On this day in 2012 we beat the Foxes 1-2 at the King Power Stadium on our way to promotion from the Championship via the Play-Offs at the end of the 2011/12 season. We travelled to the KP Stadium needing a win to keep our hopes of automatic promotion alive and fell behind to a 34th minute Jermaine Beckford opener for the hosts, before a Winston Reid leveller 5 minutes later and a second half Jack Collison strike ensured we left the Midlands with all three points. Despite the victory, we could only finish third, beating Blackpool in the Play-Off final to gain promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking under Sam Allardyce.
