West Ham captain Mark Noble launched a heartfelt rant at his squad after the Wolverhampton Wanderers loss.
And this appears to have been the catalyst for the Hammers’ upturn in results.
According to The Daily Mail, Noble accused his team-mates of not caring and launched an angry tirade at the dressing room.
These harsh words came after West Ham were beaten 1-0 by Wolves at home. This left them with no points after four games.
But Noble’s words seemed to hit home, with West Ham picking up two wins and a draw in the next three games.
Early season form
West Ham’s season started poorly as they were beaten by Liverpool at Anfield. But with little expectation going into that match, the real test came next.
However, the Hammers lost to Bournemouth, despite being 1-0 up in the second-half.
A loss at Arsenal followed, before the home defeat to Wolves. And this was the last straw for long-serving Noble.
Mark Noble’s words
Noble, a local lad and boyhood West Ham fan, believed the attitude in the camp was unacceptable.
The 31-year-old was returning from injury so he watched on as an unused substitute in that game.
After the match, he headed straight to the dressing room and ranted at his team-mates for a lack of passion.
In a five-minute tirade, Noble was quoted as saying: “You just do not seem to care and that is not acceptable at this club.”
Recent form
Since that dressing room debrief, West Ham have been excellent.
They beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park and followed that up with a solid 0-0 draw at home to high-flying Chelsea.
Then, the Irons beat Macclesfield Town 8-0 in the EFL Cup and took that confidence into the weekend.
West Ham beat out-of-sorts Manchester United 3-1 at The London Stadium to ease their woes.
