West Ham have named their squad for the 2019/20 Premier League campaign. Xande Silva has been included in West Ham’s squad after Javier Hernandez departed to join Sevilla.
Despite being injured, Silva will be part of West Ham’s squad for the season. The versatile forward will be West Ham’s third striker. Albian Ajeti and Sebastien Haller are the only two senior strikers on West Ham’s books after Chicharito’s departure.
But Silva gives the Hammers an extra option in their attack. Manuel Pellegrini has decided to include Silva to fill his striker department once he returns from injury. There is hope that he can use this opportunity to make his first-team breakthrough.
Xande Silva needs an injury-free season
This is Silva’s chance to shine – but only if he steers clear of injuries. The 22-year-old spent much of last season out injured, limiting him to just two first-team appearances. His performances in the U23 team indicated that he was ready to step up but he did not stay fit enough.
His debut came in the Premier League against Burnley and he looked bright. Shortly after, Silva played against Birmingham City in the FA Cup and was one of West Ham’s liveliest players.
But injury cut Silva’s season short. The Portugal youth international’s luck then went downhill as he had to undergo surgery in the summer. He spent a lengthy period of time in hospital but is now on the mend.
West Ham have high hopes for the striker who signed from Vitoria de Guimaraes last summer. With Chicharito now out of the picture, Silva can use this opportunity to become a permanent first-team Hammer.
