A number of West Ham players have taken to Twitter to praise David Martin after his stunning debut.
Martin enjoyed a day he will never forget, keeping a clean sheet in West Ham’s 1-0 win over Chelsea. In front of his father – Hammers legend Alvin Martin – the 33-year-old made his Premier League debut and did his boyhood club proud.
West Ham were in a slump, winless since September, and leaking goals with Roberto between the sticks. But Martin stopped the rot with a cool and composed performance at Stamford Bridge.
Martin praised by fellow Hammers
Ahead of the game, Chelsea were the much-fancied side. Yet, West Ham emerged with all three points and Martin played his part. After the game, he was mobbed by team-mates as he collapsed to the ground and his emotions poured out.
Martin also shared an unforgettable moment with his father. He went to the stands after the game to hug Alvin, who spent over 20 years as a West Ham player. Now, David has had his moment in the limelight.
Then, a host of a Hammers continued to lionise Martin on Twitter. Here are some tweets from Declan Rice, Ryan Fredericks, Robert Snodgrass and goalkeeper team-mate Lukasz Fabianski.
