What David Moyes said about West Ham before this season started is now very interesting

West Ham are in all sorts of trouble at the moment.

The Hammers are currently sitting in 16th spot in the Premier League table. They are level on points with 18th placed Bournemouth and are only two points clear of 19th placed Aston Villa, having played a game more than Dean Smith’s side.

West Ham started the season with great expectations. Having brought in the likes of Sebastien Haller and Pablo Fornals, many fans were expecting their team to push on for the top seven.

Things haven’t worked out that way, however.

David Moyes is obviously under no illusion at the size of the task that lies in wait for him and his team.

The Scot thought the Hammers would enjoy a good campaign this season, however…before he was even reappointed as manager at the London Stadium.

The 56-year-old spoke exclusively to the Mirror in July 2019, and predicted that West Ham would enjoy a successful campaign:

“West Ham are a club who should be competing, and have the capabilities to do so. But last year was the first year I think West Ham have really spent to do so.”

Obviously Moyes was a long way off with his pre-season prediction about West Ham. And he is clearly now finding it out for himself the size of the job that Manuel Pellegrini had on his hands at the London Stadium.

And the Scot has his work cut-out if he is to guide the Hammers away from the drop zone between now and the end of the season.
