West Ham United are reportedly leading the chase for £18 million Inter Milan striker Gabriel Barbosa.

West Ham have initiated interest in Barbosa according to Sky Sports Italia.

The Hammers been linked with an £18 million move for the Brazilian star – nicknamed Gabigol – who has just finished a season-long loan at Santos (Daily Mail).
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who works for Sky Sports in Italy, gave an update revealing West Ham are leading the chase for a player who scored 22 goals in 38 games for Santos last term.

Pellegrini moving first for Barbosa

“West Ham asked for Gabigol,” Romano said on Twitter.
“He’s back to Inter after Santos-loan. Many Premier League clubs have made inquiry for the Brazilian, but West Ham are going to start talks soon.”

But what has the player himself said about a potential move to the Premier League in January?
He spoke recently on the matter and the signs are encouraging for West Ham.

What Gabigol has said above January move to the Premier League

“The Premier League always had great strikers and it is a joy to watch on TV,” Barbosa said, as reported by the Daily Mail.

“It is very competitive, fast-paced and dynamic, with loads of title contenders. There is quality everywhere, that’s why everybody loves it and I am no different. It attracts me a lot.

“I follow the Brazilians, sometimes we talk and all of them love playing in the Premier League.”

Anderson and FFP in West Ham’s favour?

West Ham fans will be hoping their Brazilian hero Felipe Anderson – a former Santos and Brazil teammate of Barbosa – has been putting a good word in on the club’s behalf.

Another aspect in West Ham’s favour could be Financial Fair Play.

And the Serie A giants will more likely sell fringe players like Barbosa than risk losing stars such as Mauro Icardi.
