West Ham United’s stock continues to rise without Manuel Pellegrini’s side even kicking a ball over the weekend.
West Ham’s feat of stopping Norwich City star Teemu Pukki from scoring becomes ever more impressive.
The Hammers beat Norwich 2-0 before the international break. It was a game the Hammers could and should have won by a more handsome scoreline.
But perhaps the most impressive element of the result was the clean sheet and stopping Premier League player of the month Pukki from scoring.
West Ham dealt with Pukki pukka
In doing so West Ham were the only team to stop Pukki from scoring for some time.
In fact Pellegrini’s side are the only team since Blackburn way back in April – and including Euro 2020 qualifying matches over the summer – to stop the free-scoring Finland star from finding the net.
We are the 1 in 10
That’s after Pukki got straight back on the goal trail during the international break and followed it up with yet another in the famous win over Manchester City on Saturday.
Pukki scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Greece during the international break and followed that up with a striker against Italy.
He then scored Norwich’s third in their 3-2 win over City to make it 12 goals for club and country in his last 10 games.
Shows how far Hammers have come
He has found the net in nine of those 10 games with West Ham the only defence to keep him quiet.
And it is quite some list of teams the Hammers have outdone: Aston Villa, Bosnia, Liechtenstein, Liverpool, Newcastle, Chelsea, Greece, Italy and now defending champions City.
There was no luck about it either. Pukki barely got a sniff against Pellegrini’s impressive Hammers.
It shows how far West Ham have come in a short space of time since the opening day 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City.
West Ham can go third in the table with a win over Aston Villa on Monday night.
