It should be a proud moment for West Ham United fans watching Declan Rice in the heart of midfield for England.

West Ham star makes it clear he prefers playing with Antonio over Haller

Instead troll fans of rival clubs sharpen their axes ready to criticise the West Ham hero’s every move.

West Ham fans on social media find themselves spending more and more time defending their star man from unfair and unfounded pelters with every game he plays for the Three Lions.

Trolls lie in wait for Rice

So much so, that many have been turned off watching England play altogether.

Rice continues to be hugely underrated by many outside of West Ham.

The trolls did not disappoint with the usual outpouring of abuse for Rice after the 2-0 defeat to Belgium on Sunday.

That’s despite the West Ham vice-captain’s stats being among the best on the pitch.

‘We know he’s good, the managers know he’s good, end of story’

West Ham fans should not be having to justify Rice after every England game. And one West Ham fan hit the nail on the head this week.

“Why do West Ham fans on here continually feel they need to keep justifying how good Rice is to non West Ham fans,” Lee Peryer said on Twitter.

“We all know he’s good, the manager of West Ham and England know he is good….end of story.”

Sage words. But Hammers fans can’t stand by watching one of their own take unfair stick.

Perpetual Rice saga nearly over for four months

Well West Ham fans will be glad to know the perpetual Rice saga comes to an end for four months at least after England’s game against Iceland tonight.

Rice is expected to start. That in itself will smoke out the trolls.

But after tonight there will be no international football until March.

That will spark a collective sigh of relief among Hammers.

We can all get back to the excitement and much-needed distraction of the Premier League and watching Rice continue his brilliant form in the claret and blue.
