West Ham United fans are seething after seeing Tomas Soucek sent off in the dying moments against Fulham this evening.

The game ended 0-0 but was not without controversy.

West Ham will be grateful for a point in a game where they simply did not perform to the high standards they have set this season.

But what will concern the Hammers more is the potential loss of star man Soucek for three games after he was elected to have intentionally elbowed Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Watch us wreck the Mike

It seems the only people who deemed the incident a sending off were referee Mike Dean and VAR official Lee Mason.

Even Mitrovic appealed to Dean insisting it was not a red card offence.

West Ham now face an anxious wait to see if Soucek’s dismissal will be overturned.

If it isn’t it could derail West Ham’s season at a crucial stage with the FA Cup fifth round tie against Manchester United in midweek and the Hammers in the mix for European qualification.

Dean unites Twitter as football fraternity rallies behind Soucek as Specsavers win the internet

Pundits, journalists and fans across the football fraternity were in rare agreement that Dean has got it horribly wrong.

But while West Ham wait to learn their midfielder’s fate, opticians Specsavers have given supporters something to smile about.

The company – famed for it’s quirky humorous adverts – responded to the Premier League’s official announcement on Soucek’s red card with a brilliant burn.

“RED CARD Tomas Soucek is sent off for West Ham for an off-the-ball incident, with the decision being confirmed after referee Mike Dean visited the Referee Review Area,” the Premier League said on Twitter.

To which Specsavers responded: “We’re here if you need us.”

Carra calls for Premier League to act fast

Influential Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has also hit out at the decision.

And he has called for the red card to be scrapped.

“What is going on! that’s not a deliberate elbow!! FFS,” Carragher said on Twitter.

“This red card for Soucek needs rescinding ASAP Premier League!”
