The Premier League will resume on June 17th with West Ham back in action against Wolves on the weekend of June 19th.

After three long months with no football, though, managers are doing everything they can to ensure their players are ready.

West Ham’s need to hit the ground running is more acute than some others.

Moyes has nine games to ensure West Ham’s survival.

Hammers line up Palace and Arsenal friendlies

And he has confirmed plans are in place to play ‘sensible’ friendlies before the restart.

According to The Sun Moyes has approached his trusted former captain turned Arsenal boss Arteta and Crystal Palace’s Hodgson in a bid to play two matches before the resumption.

West Ham have already played Arsenal and Palace twice so there is no conflict of interest if games are agreed.

In fact West Ham and Arsenal were last in action against each other.

The Gunners somehow emerged victorious from a match dominated by the Hammers after a fortuitous deflection gifted Arteta’s side a win at the Emirates back in March.

A few days later Arteta was confirmed as having tested positive for the virus and the season was duly shutdown.

Moyes confirms sensible plans

Moyes confirmed the friendly plans in an interview with the club’s official website and hinted West Ham were looking to play teams within London.

“Of course, we will be playing some friendlies,” Moyes told

“We’ll do everything we can to prepare for the return of the Premier League. If you consider this a sort of pre-season period, most teams would have had a few friendlies under their belts and one thing all the clubs are not going to get is a lot of game practice, so I think getting the opportunity to do that means we can play a couple of games behind closed doors.

“Of course, we’re not going to ask other teams to travel a long distance and we don’t intend to travel a long distance as we are all following the guidelines while we’re in a position where we don’t want anything to go wrong in the lead up to the restart of the Premier League.”

Potential timescales for friendlies against London rivals

Moyes, Arteta and Hodgson will not want to play any games in the week leading up to the restart.

Arsenal are back in action on the 17th against Manchester City.

So any friendly involving West Ham and Arsenal will have to take place between now and next Wednesday.

Next Friday or Saturday will be the cut off for any plans to play Palace.
