West Ham United chief Karren Brady has been making the headlines yet again this weekend.
Brady, like co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold, is unpopular with a large section of West Ham fans.
Hammers supporters have been protesting against the trio in growing numbers this season.
West Ham fans dislike Brady for a litany of reasons, chiefly broken promises over the move from their beloved Upton Park to the London Stadium and talking about the club and rivals in her outspoken column in The Sun newspaper.
Brady hits the headlines again
And it is that column which has seen her hit the headlines once again.
This time with her opinion on what should happen in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Premier League has shut down until April 4th at the earliest. But with the virus not due to peak for another 12-14 weeks, the restart date looks highly unlikely.
That has led to a speculation over what should happen to resolve the season.
And Brady wrote in The Sun that the only fair thing to do would be to make the 2019/20 campaign null and void.
That would deny Liverpool a first title for 30 years and – as cynics were quick to point out – save West Ham from potential relegation.
Savaged Hammers chief gets big name backing
It is no exaggeration to say Brady has been savaged for her views.
But now her views have been backed by high profile names.
Piers Morgan has spoken out in defence of Brady on Twitter. And FA chairman Greg Clarke also agrees the West Ham vice-chair’s suggestion is realistic.
“Why is Karren Brady getting slaughtered for saying this?” Morgan said on Twitter.
“There’s no chance of this season being completed so the ONLY fair thing to do under such completely unprecedented circumstances is to cancel it and start again in August.”
‘Completely unrealistic’
Meanwhile chairman of the English Football Association Clarke has also told Premier League clubs that he does not believe the season can be completed (The Times).
Clarke was in attendance for the emergency English top-flight meeting in London where it was decided to suspend all matches until April 4th.
The Times report that Clarke remarked during showdown talks that it is ‘completely unrealistic’ for clubs to complete their remaining schedules this season with cases in the UK continuing to rise.
That could mean – as Brady suggests – that the season is voided.
