West Ham United fans have been desperately hoping the club makes headway with a move for Maxi Gomez.
The Celta Vigo striker is said to be West Ham’s prime target this summer (Evening Standard).
But Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini has thus far failed to make any notable progress in his striker search.
In fact most recent reports suggest a move to West Ham for Gomez is now highly unlikely.

Marca reports the 22-year-old could be on his way to Valencia instead.
As is always the way with West Ham, though, it is the hope that gets you.
And supporters still keep tabs with the latest transfer gossip columns and follow the player’s movements on social media.
There has been nothing to suggest East London is calling for Gomez of late.
Hammers target trolls Arsenal star
But the striker has found time to troll a player at West Ham’s London rivals Arsenal.
Gomez is in the Uruguay squad for the Copa America alongside Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.
And he poked some light-hearted fun at the Gunners star’s diminutive frame in a post on Twitter.
“We continue to prepare we go the prettiest (competition),” Gomez said on Twitter alongside a picture of the powerful forward embracing 5ft 6in Torreira in training for the national team.
“At last you returned brother, you are a dwarf.”
The post was hijacked by fans from West Ham and Valencia pleading with Gomez to sign for their club.
Pellegrini budget starting to prohibitive
West Ham fans will be able to watch Gomez in action when Uruguay take on Ecuador, Japan and Chile on the June 16, 21 and 25 respectively.
Celta are believed to want around £40 million for Gomez.
According to reports West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold have handed Pellegrini a transfer budget of £30million.
That has been boosted by over £10million with the sales of Lucas Perez and Edimilson Fernandes this week.
But West Ham must also somehow find another striker, two quality midfielders and a defender with those funds.
