West Ham United star Michail Antonio has responded to criticism of his finishing from David Moyes.

The Hammers boss was pleased with his side’s performance level at Arsenal on Saturday.

But the frustrated Scot slammed Antonio and strike partner Sebastien Haller’s profligacy after the game (whufc.com).

He was highly critical of the West Ham strikers, laying the blame for the defeat squarely at their feet.

Frustrated Moyes takes aim at Antonio and Haller

One particular comment from the agitated West Ham boss was clearly aimed at Antonio, after he passed the ball behind Haller when the Hammers were two on one in the Arsenal box.

“When we had opportunities to make chances for other people to score, we didn’t create them properly,” Moyes said.

Antonio has responded to the criticism on Twitter and in an interview with the club’s official website and vowed to do better in the crucial home game against Wolves on Sunday.

Antonio responds to criticism

“Hard one to take, makes it even harder that I had chances that could have changed the game,” Antonio first said on Twitter.

“Heads don’t drop, we’ll keep pushing and working.”

And he admitted he and Haller must take Moyes’s criticism on board and improve after costing the team dear (whufc.com).

“Our defenders did unbelievably today,” he added on whufc.com.

“The strikers are just going to have to take it on board and be better. There were opportunities for us, of course, which we didn’t take, and we got punished for it in the end.

“We believed that we could come here and get three points and you can see from our performance that, if we’d have taken our opportunities, we would have had them.

“Obviously, we brought the performances we gave against Liverpool and Southampton into this week, but we just didn’t take opportunities when we had them.

“With the games that are coming up, and the performances that we’ve been giving, if we keep doing what we’re doing, we’ll easily finish in the Premier League.”

Fans divided as Antonio vows to do better against Wolves

Antonio’s performance divided some West Ham fans. The hard working star runs his heart out for the cause every week.

His raw pace, power and energy gives the Hammers a vital out ball and threat.

But his quality in the final third is sometimes lacking, as evidenced at the Emirates.

Not only did he fail to set Haller up for a simple tap-in but he was also guilty of one of the misses of the season (Sky Sports).

He will retain the support of West Ham fans, though. And they will be praying Antonio brings his shooting boots for what is a must-win game against Wolves on Sunday.

West Ham will be hoping Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are distracted. Wolves have a tough trip to Greece to face Olympiacos on Thursday night before they face off at the London Stadium.
