West Ham United’s media team has come under fire from supporters when a social media post backfired spectacularly.

West Ham have endured a torrid season so far.

Manuel Pellegrini’s job is on the line after just two wins in the last 12 games.

Victory at Southampton last time out has kept the Chilean in the role for the time being at least.

Was Pellegrini forced into formation change?

Speculation is still swirling that Pellegrini had to be persuaded to ditch his preferred 433 formation in favour of playing two strikers for the visit to St Mary’s.

Indeed there is a suggestion that had Felipe Anderson not fallen ill, Pellegrini would have stuck with his 433 tactics.

Fans have been calling for the Chilean to play two up top all season.

So when he finally did AND it paid off with a win, it only served to undermine the Chilean in many respects.

Supporters are also wary of letting owners David Sullivan and David Gold off the hook.

‘The start of something special?’

The duo have given Pellegrini just £25million net to spend in the last two transfer windows.

And the fact injury-prone makeshift striker Michail Antonio is fit and firing alongside Sebastien Haller appears to be more by luck than judgement.

So when West Ham’s media team posted a video montage captioned ‘The start of something special?!’ – it did not go down well with many Hammers fans.

Some supporters felt patronised. Others were embarrassed by the club selling the partnership as some sort of revelation.

Others felt the post could jinx things for the duo.

Here are a selection of responses to the post.
